What Foundation Studies delivers in one semester

Foundation Studies at Wealthhanc is a one-semester program — approximately 18 weeks — designed for adults who have been out of formal education for a significant period, who did not complete secondary school, or who are moving into a new vocational field and need to build subject-specific groundwork first. The program covers academic reading and writing at a standard sufficient for certificate-level entry, applied numeracy relevant to business and health contexts, digital literacy including document creation and basic data handling, and study skills: time management, research methodology, and self-assessment techniques. Class sizes are capped at 12 students to allow for the level of individual feedback this cohort needs and deserves.

What you will be able to do by the end of semester

Read and write at certificate level

You will produce structured written responses to vocational scenarios, reference external sources correctly, and demonstrate the reading comprehension required for AQF level 3 and 4 assessments.

Apply numeracy with confidence

From interpreting financial tables to calculating percentages and reading basic data charts — numeracy skills are developed in realistic workplace contexts, not abstract exercises.

Navigate digital learning tools

Our online learning platform, email communication standards, document submission procedures, and collaborative online tools become familiar before you reach a more demanding program.

Guaranteed pathway to your next program

Successful completion of Foundation Studies provides a guaranteed pathway into any Wealthhanc certificate program without additional entry assessment. Your semester performance is reviewed with your adviser at week 14, and together you choose the certificate stream that best matches your interests and the aptitudes you have demonstrated during the foundation program. This removes the uncertainty many returning students feel about whether they will “qualify” for further study — if you complete Foundation Studies at the required standard, the next door opens automatically. The program does not carry an AQF classification itself and is not designed as a standalone qualification; its purpose is entirely preparatory.

I left school in Year 9 and spent 20 years in hospitality. The Foundation Studies program at Wealthhanc gave me 18 weeks of genuine skill-building — not remedial catch-up — and my instructor adjusted the numeracy exercises to use hospitality cost scenarios I actually understood. I enrolled in the Business Administration Certificate the following term.
